Center in the Park is a senior community center that provides community and connections for older adults. The non-profit has focused on the needs of older people in Philadelphia since 1968, looking to give each individual a sense of belonging, independence, and personal growth. Center in the Park gives older adults access to supportive services as well as hosting activities such as walking and yoga. You can even learn a new language! Positive aging is something that should be actively encouraged by all of us, but Center in the Park really sets the bar providing a free community for anyone aged 55+. Everyone is welcome and you never know what exciting experience awaits!

Savage Sisters Inc. is committed to providing thoughtfully designed, trauma-informed resources for those recovering from substance use disorders. Their goal is to create a helpful and compassionate community of support to encourage growth and healing, and they currently operate seven recovery houses in South Philadelphia, serving both women and men. Savage Sisters combine the 12-step program with resources like job search support, trauma therapy, and yoga in locations that provide an on-site computer, wifi, in-house laundry, and other essentials. When people feel a sense of belonging, they are able to help themselves, which is why Savage Sisters fosters an atmosphere that embraces individual differences and strengths, radical love, and community.

Now in its 35th year, Action Wellness continues to improve the lives of people with HIV/AIDS and other serious chronic illnesses by offering them health, prevention and support services. The non-profit organization was started in 1986 by a group of 84 volunteers who wanted to provide services to AIDS patients. The mission statement of the group, originally called ActionAIDS, was: “ActionAIDS believes that no one should face AIDS alone.” It grew to become one of Pennsylvania’s largest AIDS service organizations and, in 2016, expanded and rebranded to Action Wellness as part of its goal to serve an expanded base of clients. Action Wellness now has over 400 caring volunteers and 100 professional staffers who serve more than 4,000 clients a year!
