2022: Philadelphia Voted REX at The Royal Best Soul Food and Southern Restaurant!
REX at The Royal
1516 South St
(267) 319-1366 – rexphl.com
The reopened and renamed REX at The Royal still offers the very same savory, sweet goodness of REX 1516’s Southern culinary fare, with a Jamaican twist and locally sourced everything (not to mention a now elevated seafood menu) lives on right down the block on South Street. Despite moving a few paces away from its previous location, the rebranded REX at The Royal still maintains its rich history as part of the Black experience in Philadelphia, highlighted as being situated in a friendly, inclusive neighborhood via entries in the “Green Book.” In addition, a famous chef of the day — H. Franklyn Hall — was one of Philadelphia’s best-known culinary artists and wrote the cookbook, “300 Ways to Cook and Serve Shellfish.” This book served as motivation for what proudly became the REX at The Royal menu.
