Zahav brings the flavors of Israel’s cultural crossroads to Philadelphia. Chef Michael Solomonov was born in G’nei Yehuda, Israel, and raised in Pittsburgh. He returned to his home country at 18 years old, where his culinary career was born from the only job he could get — at a bakery. The now award-winning chef and cookbook author can be found covered in flour at the bread station in Zahav’s open kitchen. The food is so good, people order it nationwide. With fixed prices, customers know the selective menu has perfected dishes. Meals begin with baked laffa bread with hummus and satim, flowing into mezze and skewers, with a pomegranate lamb shoulder or cauliflower chraime for entrée options — and don’t worry, there’s dessert!
